About this Treatment
  • To decrease pruritis/itch

    Limited reports on the efficacy in PFIC but has been trialed in refractory cases. (Refractory means stubborn/not responding to treatment.)

  • Sertraline is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (“SSRI”). This type of medication is commonly used for treatment of anxiety or depression. It is believed to relieve pruritus via direct action in the central nervous system (brain), however the exact mechanism for its effects on pruritus is unclear.
