Surgical Interventions

The goal of these surgeries is to decrease the amount of bile salts being reabsorbed by the body. This is done by interrupting the recirculation of bile acids. These surgeries may be considered when medication is insufficient.

Vitamins & Nutrition

The intestinal absorption of vitamins A, D, E, and K is strongly dependent on the liver’s ability to secrete bile acids into the intestine because these vitamins are fat soluble.
