Ileal Exclusion
A surgery that connects part of the small intestine to the colon which causes bile to bypass 15% of the small bowel. This is done so that less bile is absorbed by the small bowel thus being circulated back into the liver.
Surgical procedure which diverts bile from the terminal ileum (last part of the small intestine) thus interrupting enterohepatic bile acid circulation.
Proximal ileum is connected to the colon bypassing the last 15% of the small bowel. No external stoma.
Some reports of less favorable outcomes due to ileal adaptation and accommodation to re-absorb bile salts
